RESUME

   Derrick Werlé is a Hollywood renowned composer-orchestrator and a voting member of the Grammys. He has an aggregated box office total of over $2.3 billion. He works for Hans Zimmer on movies such as Boss Baby, Dunkirk, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Blue Planet and Hans Zimmer Live 2017.

    Derrick came to the US to study music for film and media at UCLA in 2010 as a French Fulbright Scholar. During his studies at UCLA, he won several awards, including the "Dissertation Year Fellowship", "Henri Mancini Award", "UCLA Affiliates Fellowship", and "Lurcy-Fulbright Scholarship".

  Derrick composes a wide range of styles, and he enjoys combining different music styles together in order to forge his own musical language. He is especially interested in music for video games, and visual media. His Ph.d dissertation topic was "The Music of World of Warcraft". In 2015, Derrick graduated from UCLA with a Ph.D. in composition.

 

   Besides composition, he is also a classically trained pianist at The Paris Conservatory in France and The Royal Academy of Music and Drama in Scotland. He won "First Prize" in piano performing from the Paris City Hall and holds a Master's degree in Piano Performing from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

  Derrick works as composer, orchestrator, and arranger since 2016.  His credits include several movies by Hans Zimmer such as DreamWork's "Boss Baby", Chris Nolan's "Dunkirk", and TV series such as BBC's "Blue Planet II". He also worked on the music for the VR video game "Master of the Sun, Black Eyed Peas" of Will-I-Am.

 

  He is credited as orchestrator in many TV and Film documentaries: BBC's nature documentary, "Big Cats"; National Geographic's "Princess Diana, in her own words"; "Rem", an hommage to the Architect Rem Koolhaas. "Rem" was selected by "the 73rd Venice International Film Festival". 

 

      He was an orchestrator for Ludwig Göransson (Black Panther) on his court métrage, "Little Match Girl". "The Eight Hundred", a chinese historical epic movie soundtrack by composers Rupert Gregson-Williams and Andrew Kawczynski, was also orchestrated by Derrick.

 During the Pandemic Derrick Orchestrated a feature documentary on Fox TV "Malika the Lion Queen". In 2022, he was the orchestrator for 2 seasons of Netflix's "Animal"  Nature Documentary Series.

  Derrick's sound design was featured in April 2022 at the prestigious Sony Hall in collaboration with Mind Travel Elemental. He also composed the Logo Music for "the Hollywood Florida Film Festival". 

 

   He is currently working on several movie projects, an Opera (performance in 2023), Concert Music, and an album for a French singer who was a winner of the "French Pop Idol" (À la recherche de la nouvelle star).
